Born and raised in the District of Columbia, Emerald has lived east of the Anacostia River most of her life. She attended Duke Ellington School of the Arts, where she studied Dance and experienced some of the city's best pre-professional arts programming. As a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University earning a BFA in Dance and Choreography, arts education has fostered life changing opportunities for her including performing for Michelle Obama in 2010 and studying abroad in Paris for a semester in 2016. Emerald went on to dance professionally as a performing artist with Step Afrika!, a cultural ambassador for DC that encourages higher education and community engagement. Currently she is a full time Dance Teaching Artist.
Emerald is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She is active with The Federal City Alumnae Chapter in Washington D.C. where she serves as Step Team Chair.
