Dorothy Irene Height
Emerald learned early on in her life that giving back through community service makes a difference in the lives of others.
Emerald has hosted several service events, including school supply drives, community clean-ups, and free community fitness classes.
Her platform includes reorganizing the District of Columbia’s approach to health and wellness, civic engagement, and environmental equity. Emerald ran for an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner seat during the 2020 election season. To inspire others to run for political office she contributed a personal narrative in the 2021 edition of PHILLIS: A Scholarly Journal Published by DREF (Delta Research and Educational Foundation). Emerald is also a graduate of the 5th cohort of Claudia L. McKoin Public Leadership Service Academy. She is a huge advocate for the Performing Arts and has organized her own community initiative entitled Captivating with ConfiDANCE! Emerald aspires to work to increase higher education accessibility and travel opportunities for generationally marginalized groups.
